Simon Says: “Use Fitts’ Law

Simon Says exploits Fitts' Law to create rhythm.

This experiment formed as a response to a class assignment in which the students were given a score—a simple rhythm—and asked to create a multimedia experience, interactive or otherwise, which embodied it. The cadence is shown below, but I recommend giving the demo a shot before studying it.

The Rhythm

The Melody

Because the focus of this exercise lies on the rhythm, sounds are off by default. The the button used to activate the interaction provides the sound. However, if you'd like a little melody on top of the clicks, press the 'S' key after clicking within the bounds of the demo to toggle the well-remembered tones on and off.
